Xoom vs. iPad 2

Many of us have been fans of the iPad since it was first released in April of 2010. The iPad fans waited in long lines for the iPad 2 when it was released in March of 2011. It has likely occurred to you to wonder if the main competition of iPad 2, Xoom, is a better tablet.

It is a good idea for Apple fans to at least try out the Xoom to see if it meets your priorities better than the iPad 2. There are several things to consider when making your choice, but for most people apps are on the top of the list.

The main considerations are obviously the advantages and disadvantages. An iPad 2 disadvantage is Apple’s stringent control of third party apps that are released through the App Store. Apple rejects apps that do not meet its strict guidelines or company policy. While this means a uniform experience for use of the iPad 2, and customers know what to expect, the lack of choice in third party apps can be a turn-off for many users.

Apple policies have them being a part of iPad 2 and iPhone financial transactions. The financial control Apple exerts is why they lock down the platform. It is also part of the reason for Apple’s dealings with jailbreakers. Jailbreaking takes away Apple’s financial control. Apple doesn’t want people to jailbreak their devices since they will then be unable to control the content. Apple tries to stop jailbreaking even though it is perfectly legal.

Xoom drawbacks include: browser bugs when using an external Bluetooth keyboard, SD card is read only, the screen isn’t as sharp as the iPad 2, and there is more contrast.

Some advantages iPad 2 has are a long battery life, instant on, and apps. iPad 2 apps are of a better quality, variety, and higher number of apps. Since Xoom wants to compete with iPad 2, then one thing they need to do is come up with financial inducements so that top quality third party app developers will want to write apps for Xoom. Right now there are over 140,000 apps on the Apple website for the iPad 2. Xoom does not make their app numbers available, but it is around 100 apps which is a significant disadvantage.

The Xoom’s operating system runs on a variety of phones and tablet computers. The Xoom operating system has several advantages over the ios operating system that include: an excellent browser that includes Flash, an open ecosystem, multitasking, and apps that work like they do on the desktop.

Despite iPad 2 advantages, it is best to choose Xoom for it high potential and wide range of apps available.  Also, check out this site below. It offers a Xoom to anyone who is willing to fill out their short survey. Supplies are obviously limited so you better hurry.

Xoom vs. iPad 2

More and more people are seeing how convenient it is to have a tablet computer.  Although there are several brands on the market, the two top tablets to consider are the Xoom vs. iPad 2.  Tablets are easier to take along wherever you go because they are considerably thinner than a laptop.  If you find that a tablet is a good option when you travel on business, then you have already thought about buying a Xoom vs. iPad 2.

Thinking about Xoom vs. iPad 2, however, is not something that is exclusive to business users.  Casual users see the benefits of tablets and are taking Xoom vs. iPad 2  into account.  There are differing facts to take into account.  Each individual needs to weigh the pros and cons and then decide on Xoom vs. iPad 2.

Xoom vs. iPad 2: Browsing

Computer users know the importance of using a good browser.  It can make all the difference in how fast a page loads.  With Xoom vs. iPad 2, the two browsers to compare are Mobile Google Chrome for Xoom and Mobile Safari for iPad 2.  Xoom’s Chrome browser has faster surfing and actual tabbed browsing like you would find on many desktops.  Tabbed browsing is generally preferred to multiple pages since you will be able to view your selections in only one window.  You can even have more than one page as your home page.  With Apple’s iPad 2, only one page can be accessed at a time, necessitating leaving one page before browsing another.

With Xoom vs. iPad 2 browsing, Xoom comes out on top.  Something else to think about in comparing Xoom vs. iPad 2 browsing is that Xoom has auto-fill options and Google’s Incognito Mode for private browsing.  Apples iOS 4.3 does improve browsing by increasing surfing efficiency.  The better browsing experience you get with Xoom makes it the winner when you compare browsing with Xoom vs. iPad 2.

Xoom vs. iPad 2: Power and Storage

Xoom vs. iPad 2 power is a basic comparison that you will want to make.  Xoom’s processor is a 1GHz dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2.   iPad 2 has a dual-core A5 processor.  It isn’t easy to compare Xoom vs. iPad 2 when it comes to Random Access Memory.  Xoom has 1GB of Ram.  Apple has not made it clear how much RAM the iPad 2 has although it is thought to have 512MB.  From this it can be deduced that when it comes to RAM, Xoom has more of it or Apple would have made it clear in their specs.

When it comes to Xoom vs. iPad 2 storage, iPad 2 has more options.  This is an important point for consumers who are cost-conscious.  iPad 2 includes tablets with 16GB, 32GB, or 64GB storage.  Xoom has only 32GB storage, but it is expandable.

Xoom vs. iPad 2: Price

When you are doing Xoom vs. iPad 2 comparisons, an obvious one to make is that of the cost of each tablet.  Money is an important factor for most people contemplating Xoom vs. iPad 2.  The best Xoom vs. iPad 2 comparison to make is that of the 32GB storage since each has that amount of storage.  The Xoom 32GB costs $799.00 and the iPad 2 32GB costs $729.00.  If your priorities rank Xoom vs. iPad 2 as fairly equal, then the $70.00 savings can loom big.  That seems simple on the surface, but it is not the only aspect when considering a 32GB.  The price of the 32GB Xoom drops to $599.00 with a 2-year plan from Verizon.  iPad 2 starts at $499.00 and goes up to $829.00 for the 64GB version.

There is more to cost than just the tablet price of Xoom vs. iPad 2.  Another cost aspect of Xoom vs. iPad 2 is that of one of the extras.  Xoom has a direct HDMI out and the iPad 2 costs $39.00 as an add-on.  If you need an HDMI cable, then this will bring the $70.00 difference in the cost between the Xoom vs. iPad 2 32GB down to only $31.00.  It is a small enough difference to keep in mind when debating Xoom vs. iPad 2.  Xoom also has a speaker dock that props up your screen.  That is a big convenience when you are multi-tasking.  There is an extra that both Xoom and iPad 2 have at no extra cost so there won’t be any need to compare Xoom vs. iPad 2.  The extra they both have is a wireless keyboard, a big convenience and comfort that is superior to a laptop.

Xoom vs. iPad 2:  Apps

If having a lot of apps is important to you when contemplating Xoom vs. iPad 2, then the iPad 2 is the clear winner.  There are about 65,000 apps in Apple’s App Store that are designed to run natively on the iPad 2.  Google’s Android has only around 100 apps.  This amount will go up soon because more developers want to use Android to bring their apps to tablets. There is something else you should keep in mind when comparing Xoom vs. iPad 2 apps is that most Android phone apps and iPhone apps will also run on their respective tablets.
